I released an album…then it all went wrong!

So I turned 40 on Monday...

To celebrate, I arranged for my debut album to be released on my 40th birthday. It seemed like a great way to mark such a milestone birthday (and a more unique take on a midlife crisis - It's far more interesting than just buying a sports car).

Only it didn't quite work as well as I initially thought it would.

See, I've been on tour in Europe for the last three weeks and, through a long and boring series of small decisions, I ended up finishing the tour in Antwerp on Sunday afternoon (the day BEFORE my birthday), having to catch a ferry from Calais at 8:40pm, drive my tour manager back up to Lincolnshire and then drive back home to Bedfordshire, getting in through my front door at 3:30am.

This of course left me utterly shattered on my birthday. When I finally woke up later that morning, I only had the energy to do one thing: spend time with my wonderful wife and daughter who I had spent the best part of three weeks missing dearly with virtually no desire whatsoever to log on to any devices for any reason, promotional or otherwise.

Consequently, I released an album two days ago and didn’t do anything to promote it on release day.

Probably a bit of a faux pas when it comes to marketing…but I have it on good authority that the album STILL exists and didn’t cease to exist just because I didn’t talk about it on release day!

It’s out now in all the usual places - buying it on Bandcamp is my preferred way for you to hear it as it supports me directly in ways that streaming never will and you can buy the CD and also get the download for free along with it as well as unlimited streaming on Bandcamp, BUT I appreciate that people have different ways that they like to listen to things.

(It’s also available on vinyl from elasticStage for those of you who prefer their albums all analogue and old school!)

The album is pretty wonderful if I do say so myself. I’ve worked really hard over the last few years on this and I’m honestly so proud of it, along with everyone who helped me put it together.

The songs all come together to tell a story and I defy you to listen to the album and tell me that you can’t find anything to relate to within the lyrics. Whilst the storytelling is deeply personal, it’s also incredibly relatable, as I have been told often by the wonderful people who come to talk to me after my shows.

I could go on (and will probably find plenty more to say over the coming days) but for now I will let the album speak for itself. Once again, the links are:

Happy 40th birthday to me and welcome to the world, This Is Where You’ll Find Me!
